Jobs that must wear electric arc protective clothing, standardized IEC 61482-2 are those exposed to electric arc risks when working on or near live or potentially live electrical installations. The main professions concerned are:
- Electricians: those who work on electrical panels, cabinets, transformers, lines, etc.
- Electrical maintenance technicians: troubleshooting or maintenance work on industrial or tertiary electrical installations.
- Electrical network installers/fitters: work on networks (HTA/BT), laying live cables, etc.
- Electrical substation operators: monitoring, operations on transformer and distribution stations.
- Live working technicians: all persons qualified to work on electrical installations in service (including overhead or underground lines).
- Energy operating or distribution agents: work on electrical lines, panels, boxes, meters.
- Building electrical technicians: connection/maintenance work that may cause electric arcs.
The port of arc flash clothing also depends on the risk analysis specific to each intervention (type of voltage, available energy, operations to be carried out, etc.), in accordance with the regulations (Labor Code, standard NF EN 61482).
The arc flash clothing are also mandatory for any authorized person (electrical authorization), when working in an area at risk of electric arcing.
All the professionals exposed to the risk of electric arc in the exercise of their profession must wear these protective clothing, as soon as the risk is identified by the risk analysis. This mainly includes jobs related to electricity, in industry, construction, and networks.
Often multi-standard: The arc flash clothing can also resist flames, convective heat (EN ISO 11612), antistatic (EN 1149-5), etc.
