The context

The EN 17353 standard determines the design of professional and non-professional clothing with retroreflective strips and fluorescent material not included in the High Visibility clothing standard EN 20471.
There are no longer distinctions between professional and non-professional VTs as in EN ISO 20471.

Enhanced visualization equipment is intended to make users more noticeable in moderate risk situations regardless of daylight conditions or illumination by vehicle headlights or spotlights in the dark

Definition and regulatory requirements

Definition of the EN 17353 standard

This new standard EN 17353 has 3 classifications:

  • TYPE A: Visible by day, only in fluorescent material
  • TYPE B: Visible in the dark, presence of retroreflective material:
    • B1 : free hanging – not concerned by our catalog lines
    • B2: Members
    • B3: Torso or Torso and Limbs
  • TYPE AB: Visible in daylight, half-light and darkness, with retroreflective and fluorescent materials
